Crewing

Prior to the start of pre-production, a crew grid is created for each production cycle. The method of crewing for each production cycle is described below.

  • Crews on the F1 project typically consist of five on-set positions: Producer, Director, DP, Gaffer, and Sound Mixer.
  • Each student cycles through all five positions.
  • Students crew themselves within each group.
  • Crew grids must be completed before the end of Week 8.
Crews on the Documentary project typically consist of three positions: Director, DP, and Sound Mixer.
Students form their own groups and crew themselves.
Crews on the live action F3 project typically consist of ten on-set positions: Producer/1st AD, Director, DP, Production Designer, 2nd AD, 1st AC, 2nd AC, Key Grip, Gaffer, and Sound Mixer.
Each student cycles through all ten positions.
Students crew themselves.
The crewing session typically takes place at the start of Week 15.
Crews on the live action BTH project typically consist of nine on-set positions for BFA3 students (Producer, Director, DP, Production Designer, 1st AD, 1st AC, Key Grip, Gaffer, Sound Mixer) and six on-set positions for BFA2 students (Art Director, 2nd AD, 2nd AC, Script Supervisor, Best Grip, Assistant Editor).
Students are not required to do every position and are permitted to do positions more than once, so long as the distribution of positions is fair.
BFA3 students crew themselves; the Head of Production crews the BFA2 students.
The BFA3 crewing session typically takes place in Week 6.
